|
Coach Jackson is in his
second year as Head Coach of the Smithfield High
School Hockey team. Coach played his high
school hockey at Toll Gate high school in
Warwick, RI. He was an All-State selection
during his senior year and helped his team
finish state runner up in a three game series
against Mount St. Charles. From Toll Gate,
coach went on to Norwich University in Vermont
to continue his hockey career. At Norwich he
helped the Cadets win three ECAC Hockey
Championships and an NCAA National Championship
in his senior year. He began his coaching
career in 2000-2001 as an assistant at Toll Gate
High School. From there, he became Head Coach
at Cranston East High School where his team
earned two sportsmanship awards two of the three
years he was there. After coaching five years
in the high school ranks Coach Jackson was named
assistant coach at the University of Rhode
Island. At URI he assisted in winning the first
ever ECHA National Championship for URI as well
as being named ECHA National coaching staff of
the year. Unfortunately; coach was unable to
return to URI because of the demands of his day
job. He coached one year at LaSalle as an
assistant before becoming the Head Coach of the
Smithfield Sentinels. Coach is currently a Guidance
Counselor at Tolman High School in the Pawtucket
School Department. |

Coach Richard Tavis Jr. |
|
Assistant Coach Tavis was a four year
player as a goaltender under Coach Reynolds
Lillibridge and the winner of the 1994 Reverand
Newbold Award. A '94 graduate of Smithfield High
School, Rick was a member of the '91,'92 & '94
championship teams. Prior
to becoming Assistant Coach for the
Smithfield Sentinels, Rick coached at Cranston
East High School with Head Coach Rob Jackson. A
graduate of Rhode Island College, Rick earned a
B.A. in Environmental Geography and is a
compliance manager for an East Providence based
organic seafood company.

Coach John Sayles |
|
Assistant Coach Sayles
began skating and playing the game of ice hockey
at the young age of 4. He played youth hockey for
the Warwick Junior Hockey Association at Thayer
Arena. Then, continued to play high school
hockey at LaSalle Academy. At LaSalle, he
played on the varsity team all four years.
During his Junior and Senior years, he was named
on the Rhode Island Interscholastic League's 1st
Team - All-State - Defensive Team and made it to
the RIIL State Championship Series both years.
During his Senior year, the team took Mount St.
Charles Academy to an exciting three game
series, when Mount was undefeated the entire
season. After LaSalle, he did a Post Graduate
year at The Winchendon School in Winchendon,
Massachusetts. He played in the Division 1 Prep
League and had about a .500 record. After Prep
School, he attended New England College and
played his Freshman and Sophomore years.
He also played high school golf for four years
at LaSalle. He was named on the RIIL's 2nd Team
- All-Division his sophomore year and 1st Team
All-Division his Junior and Senior years. He is
currently a 3 handicap and plays golf at a
competitive level. |
